Graduated from St. Sebastian's Country Day School in Newton, MA; from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL with a B.A. in History and Government; from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT with a M.A. in Liberal Studies; with additional study at the University of Madrid, New York University.
Taught at St. Edward's School in Florida as a founding faculty member; and at Purnell School in New Jersey, in 1974, succeeding the founder as Head of School; was Executive Vice President of John's Island Company and COO of the Driftwood Resort Group in Florida, and Vice President and Senior Consultant with the Princeton Strategy Group in New Jersey. Left law practice to pursue graduate work at Harvard’s Program in Religion and Secondary Education. Earl Ball

Served as Head of School at William Penn Charter School (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), 1976-2007. Prior to that time served as Assistant Head of The Park School (Maryland), and as Associate Director of Teacher Preparation at the Graduate School of Education, University of Pennsylvania. Taught English to secondary school students in urban schools, suburban schools, and independent schools as well as taught education courses at the graduate level at the University of Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkins University.
While at William Penn Charter School, served on the boards of the National Association of Independent Schools, the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools (past president), the Friends Council on Education (executive committee clerk). Also served as a member and past president of the Country Day School Headmasters Association, as past president and member of the Headmasters Association, and as a member of the Headmistresses of the East and the National Association of Principals of Schools for Girls. Also trustee of Tower Hill School (Delaware), and the White-Williams Scholars support program for inner-city students in Philadelphia. Chaired accreditation teams for schools in five different regional associations.
Earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Middlebury College prior to completing a Master of Arts in Teaching from Johns Hopkins University. Completed doctoral work at the University of Pennsylvania focused on curriculum and instruction with a specialty in teacher supervision.
Benjamin L. Bolte

Chuck Burdick

Chuck has 38 years experience in five NAIS independent schools. He spent 26 consecutive years in boarding schools, 12 in day schools and 24 years in K-12 schools. Prior to his most recent appointments at Cary Academy, NC, he held positions at Kent School, CT; Phillips Exeter Academy, NH; Milton Academy, MA; and Princeton Day School, NJ.
Before joining Carney, Sandoe & Associates in July, 2005 as a Search and Consulting Associate, he was the first full-time Head of Upper School at Cary Academy before serving as the school's founding Dean of Faculty.
Additional positions have included: teacher of English and American literature (including AP); dormitory resident and head; coach; admissions, financial aid, and college counseling officer; department chair (English, Library/Media Services); grant writer; and director of the Massachusetts Advanced Studies Program, a nationally recognized summer school for talented and underserved Massachusetts public school students.

Graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Georgetown University with a B.S. in French and Italian. Also earned an M.S. and Ph.D. at Georgetown, while teaching in local public schools and coaching rowing at Georgetown and George Washington Universities.
Served in international schools as Secondary Principal at the American Embassy School in New Delhi, India. Worked as Assistant Head of School/Dean of Students at Salisbury School in Connecticut for seven years before taking position as Headmaster of The American School in Switzerland. Also served as Secondary Principal of Academia Cotopaxi in Quito, Ecuador; as President of the American College of Sofia in Bulgaria; as Assistant Head of School and Dean of Faculty at Berkshire School; and, most recently, as President of International College in Beirut, Lebanon. Ralph Davison

Graduated from Hamilton College in Clinton, NY with a B.A. in Music and French; from Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT with a M.A. in medieval French literature; from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA with a Ph.D. in History and Education. Doctoral work centered on the missionary education work of the Episcopal Church with rural southern African-Americans (ca. 1907-1940) and the Appalachian Mountain people in Virginia (1888-1948).
Served as the Associate Headmaster of St. Anne’s-Belfield School (VA), the Assistant Headmaster of St. Stephen’s School (VA) and, from 1986 to 2006, as the Headmaster of Greensboro Day School (NC). Founder of the Triad Association of Non-public Schools (NC), served as the President of the North Carolina Association of Independent Schools, and currently serves on the boards of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), the Southern Association of Independent Schools, the Collegiate School (VA) and the corporate board for Kindermusik International.
Served on the local boards of First Union and Wachovia Banks (1991-2005) and currently is a faculty member of the NAIS Financing Schools Institute.
Bruce W. Galbraith

Graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI with a B.A. in Music and a M.A. in Educational Administration.
He served as teacher, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director, 1963-1968, Executive Director of a statewide music association at the University of Michigan 1968-1977, and Head of School for 25 years - Interlochen Arts Academy 1977-1987, and Park Tudor School (IN) 1987-2002, when he retired.
Bruce is Registrar General (COO) of The Cum Laude Society (National HS Honorary) and Executive Director of NAPSG (the National Association of Principals of Schools for Girls), was President of AIMS (Association of Independent Michigan Schools), and chaired the boards of ISACS (Independent Schools Association of the Central States) and the PBS radio and TV stations in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a Trustee of NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools) and the Michigan Council for the Arts, is a Member of the Headmaster’s Association and the Country Day School Headmaster’s Association. He has been a consultant to numerous schools in America, and to schools in Taiwan, Israel and New Zealand.

Kathleen (Kiki) Johnson

Graduated from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY with a A.B. in History; from the University of Maryland in College Park, MD with a M.A. in History.
Most recently Vice President for Institutional Leadership for the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), leading programs and resources for heads, trustees, and topics related to governance, leadership, strategic planning and evaluation. Previously was Executive Director, New Jersey Association of Independent Schools, and Senior Policy Analyst, Office of Private Education, U.S. Department of Education. Kiki serves as a Senior Consultant of The Search Group as well as providing institutional assessment and strategic consulting services to boards and top management teams of schools.
Taught in four NAIS member schools, and headed three of them: Interim Head, St. Luke's School, New York; Headmistress, Albany Academy for Girls, Albany, NY; Acting Head, The Madeira School, Greenway, VA. She also taught history, and was Academic Dean at Madeira prior to becoming head.
Presently Trustee, Henry Sheldon Museum of Vermont History, Middlebury, VT and Member, Search Committee, St. Stephen’s Church, also in Middlebury. Past trustee and chair, of the Trustee Committee, McLean School, Potomac, MD. Has been a board member of the National Association of Principals of Schools for Girls, (NAPSG), and The Head Mistresses of the East (also former President) and currently serves the latter as its Executive Director. Served as an Associate with Spencer Stuart Associates, Dallas, TX, a global executive search firm, the third-largest in the world; previously served as an Associate with both Korn Ferry International and with Sandhurst Associates, both in Dallas, TX. Was a Research Associate with Grassroots, Incorporated, a San Francisco-based capital management firm, and with Future Computing, Incorporated, a marketing research firm in the personal computer arena.

Timothy R. McIntire

Graduated from St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN with a B.A. in English; from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC with a M.A. in English; from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA with a Ed.S. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies.
With over thirty years of independent school experience, Tim has served as a teacher and administrator at The Asheville School from 1978-1987 where he taught English, coached, and was a Dorm Master, the Dean of Students and Assistant Headmaster. In 1989, Tim was named Principal of the Upper School at The Kinkaid School in Houston, Texas. He followed his work at Kinkaid with an appointment in 1996 to be Head of School at Albuquerque Academy in New Mexico. In 2000, Tim became the Executive Director of the Southwestern Association of Episcopal Schools (SAES) which covers the states of Arkansas, Arizona, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. From 2002-2006, he was Head of School and Chief Executive Officer at Francis Parker School in San Diego.
Tim has served schools both locally and nationally by participating in the work of regional and national organizations including the Council for Spiritual and Ethical Education, ASSIST, The Texas Private School Accreditation Association and the Texas Association of Non-Public Schools. He has worked with numerous boards on creative leadership and governance; served on several accreditation commissions; been a vital leader and participant in conferences and workshops on equity and justice issues; and mentored a diverse cadre of independent school leaders. Tim is a member of the Country Day School Headmasters Association.
Tom Redmon
Senior Search Consultant
Has served as the President of the Southern Association of Independent Schools in Atlanta for the past 21 years. Prior to this service he worked for the College Board in Atlanta and New York between 1976 and 1984 as a director of the Admissions Testing Program and later as director of state and legislative services. During the two years prior to becoming executive director of SAIS, he served the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB), headquartered in Atlanta, as senior officer for educational policy research.
Dr. Redmon, earned his bachelor's degree at Duke University, a master's degree in Theology from Boston University, an Ed.D. from the University of Georgia, and post-doctoral certification in Adult and Life Long Learning from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
He serves or has completed service on numerous boards as an officer or director, including the Council on Spiritual and Ethical Education, the Council for Advanced Study in International Education, the Georgia Society of Association Executives and the GSAE Foundation, The Galloway School in Atlanta, and is a member of Atlanta Rotary.
Barry Rowland

Graduated from the University of Toronto in Toronto, ON with a B.P.H.E and a B.A. in Education; from the Ontario Institute of Educational Studies, University of Toronto in Toronto, ON with a M.Ed. in Educational Administration and Special Education. Mr. Rowland holds teaching certification in English, Latin, Physical and Health Education as well as Principal and Superintendent Certification from the Ontario Ministry of Education [Canada].
Prior to joining Carney, Sandoe & Associates Mr. Rowland served as Superintendent of Schools in the City of York, Toronto, Canada from 1985-1998 with major responsibilities in the areas of strategic planning, human resources, special education programs/services, school safety and security, supervision and evaluation of elementary/secondary principals, and secondary school staffing. Prior to that he served as a school administrator and teacher for 22 years.
Mr. Rowland's impressive list of civic and educational activities include: Municipal Councilor, City of York, Toronto [1991-1998]; Chair, City of York Municipal Labour-Management Board, Administrative Services Committee, Works and Parks Committee; Chair, York Board Secondary School Strategic Planning Principals' Committee; Chair/Member Supervised Alternative Learning Committee, Special Education Advisory Committee and Board Committee on Policies and Procedures for Safety and Security in Schools; Chair/Member, Ontario Secondary School Headmasters' Council, Central Region and Ontario Secondary School Headmasters' Council; workshop presenter for IMTEC at their International Strategic Planning Conferences [Denver, Amsterdam and Oxford], the N.E.A. and the Russia Educational Authority.
After an outstanding football and hockey career at the University of Toronto, Mr. Rowland played professional football in both the Canadian and Continental Football Leagues. He also represented Canada in International Rugby. He is a published author with four books detailing Canada's role in the Second World War.
